THE BUDDY PROGRAM
CONTACT AND REGISTRATION INFORMATION FOR THE BIG 26 BUDDY PROGRAM COMING SOON
The Buddy Program was added to the Big 33 Football Classic in 1985, and was implemented into the Big 26 Baseball Classic from its first season in 2012.
The program pairs Big 26 athletes with a "buddy" who has a physical or intellectual disability. Buddies and athletes spend time together on and off the field through a series of events that include a picnic and the Buddy Challenger Game.
The events remind us that our abilities - the ability to love, to laugh, to touch a heart - are far more profound than our disabilities. Our Big 26 athletes are on the field to impress coaches and scouts, but they all say the same thing after the event; that the Buddy Program is just as important - and maybe even more impactful - as the competition.
There is no cost for buddies to participate.
